What is the Body-Positive Movement?
The Body-Positive Movement (also known as the Healthy Body Movement) was created in 2012. Also, the Healthy Body Institute was established as a place where people could share information and experiences about improving their health and living longer. The Body-Positive Movement is meant to be a place where people come together to support one another in making personal, educational, experiential, and practical discoveries about how to live a healthier life. There is also a large emphasis on the mind-body connection.
In this movement, you will meet many leaders who have made major contributions to the health of the movement. Among these include Dr. Lloyd C. MacDonald, Ph.D., founder and medical director of the Center for Energy Metabolism and Human Performance; Dr. John H. Watson, M.D., founder, and director of the Institute for Exercise and Environmental Research; Dr. Edward Latessa, founder and president of the Body Image Institute; and Dr. Michael J. Breyer, author, and consultant to the National Institute of Health. These individuals have each made important contributions toward the growth of the Body-Positive movement and its impact on the overall health and wellness of millions of people. What is the Education of the Body-Positive Movement?
The Body-Positive education program works to teach individuals how they can change their lifestyles, physical habits, and physical environments to create positive, lasting changes that benefit them all. The movement then works to support these changes by providing training, guidance, and resources to those who want to improve their health and well-being. Through the Body-Positive education program, you will learn about: physical science and its application to human anatomy and physiology; environmental science and its application to physical education; and nutritional science and its application to physical education and fitness.
You will also be introduced to concepts such as body image, which is a popular concept in the Body-Positive movement. According to the movement, physical beauty is a product of bodily fitness and body composition. By improving your physical health, you will become more attractive and confident to yourself and others. This will lead to improved relationships and greater self-esteem.
Through Body-Positive education, you will be encouraged to participate in physical activities and sports. These activities are designed to increase your body’s resistance to disease and infection, improve your flexibility and build your strength.
