During winter we’ll often find the tiniest reason not to go to the gym. Either because it’s too depressing outside, or because it’s snowing, or maybe because we can’t stand the cold and stepping outside from the gym into the freezing outdoors. A few excuses later and we’re basically in the state of hibernation. Being hardly active at all leads to you quickly completely neglecting your workout routine, and piling up weight over the winter. Later, when you realize it’s almost bikini season, it can be tedious and time-consuming to shed all the pounds; but worry not because, with a few simple steps, you’ll be able to accomplish it.
Switch up your diet
First and foremost, you’ll have to forget about snacking while laying back and watching your favourite show or reading a book in the evening. Greasy, salty crackers or other snacks are the worst possible food you can have late at night. Mix them with your sugary soda and you’ve got a recipe for obesity. Swap salty snacks for healthy foods such as carrots for example. Mix healthy lettuce, cabbage, apples, and apple cider vinegar for a healthy yummy snack. Leave pizza, sandwiches, pasta and other carb-rich foods behind, and opt for much healthier meals filled with lean meats, fish, leafy greens and whole grains. Fruits are a much better dessert choice than ice-cream or a piece of your favourite cheesecake. Blueberries, strawberries, apricots, pineapple, mango and raspberries mixed together can make a wonderful fruit salad that will satiate all your sugar needs and won’t give you extra fat.
Aside from starting to eat better, you’ll also have to rid your body of all the fat that’s been accumulating inside you for an entire winter. Hit the gym, hire a personal trainer to help you with your exercises and watch your body get the shape worthy of a fitness magazine cover. If you’ve been well acquainted with the workouts that are good for your body and figure, you won’t need a trainer to guide you, but you might need one to motivate you and push you forward when you don’t feel like pumping iron. If you don’t have time to go to the gym, you can always look up for exercise bikes for home use and get one for your home to help you shed those pounds easily. Just place a stationary bicycle in your living room, and start spinning while listening to your favourite tunes, or watching your favourite show. You can even read and study while cycling to make the most of your training.
Don’t forget H2O
Water is invaluable for losing weight and helping you go back in shape after long winter. Not only is it necessary during your workout sessions, but it’ll promote weight loss if you drink a glass of water 30 minutes before every meal. Water will hydrate your body, allowing you to give your maximum when you’re exercising and also helping you satiate your thirst without making you crave more than you actually need, as many sugary beverages do. If you don’t feel like drinking flavourless water, think about adding a leaf of mint or a slice of lemon in it and drink it with a zesty twist.
Move as much as possible
Working out isn’t the only activity that will help you go back in shape. If the first days at the gym after a long break feel incredibly draining and tedious, incorporate physical activity into your everyday routine. Use lunch breaks to eat on the go, walk to and from work, spend your weekends in nature riding a bicycle, skating, hiking or maybe at the local swimming pool. The less passive you are, the quicker you’ll go back in shape.
Getting back in shape has never been easier. All you need to do is cut back on fatty foods, start working out again and swap unhealthy beverages for healthier alternatives. You’ll see your body becoming fit again, and you’ll start feeling amazing too.
